Join Our Team

POSITION: Part-Time Instructional Designer, 100% Remote
Company: Media-Vox, Inc.
Compensation:   $32-$37/hour
Start Date:   March/April 2021
Expected Hourly Commitment: 20 hours/week (M-F within the hours of 10:00-4:00 CST)

Overview of Role:
Our small business is growing and we need an experienced instructional designer to join our team of training and video professionals. We create online learning solutions for corporations, primarily in the form of training videos and job aids.

Project needs may vary, but all require key instructional design capabilities. For example, one project may involve interviewing subject matter experts about a learning need and then writing learning objectives, creating a content outline, writing scripts, and creating the storyboard for video production. Another project may involve reviewing existing content in multiple forms (e.g., PowerPoint presentations, old course content) and updating it to meet new needs and preferred delivery format (e.g., video).

Who We Are:
We, the owners of Media-Vox, Inc., are a husband-and-wife team that's been in business for over 11 years. I am Beth Haselhorst, lead instructional designer and project director. My husband, John Reichert is the lead video editor and producer. We work with independent contractors for video editing, graphic design, e-learning development, and training documentation. We believe it's possible to combine professionalism, exceptional client service, and a sense of urgency with a friendly, casual environment of thoughtfulness and kindness. Being supportive and having everyone's best interests at heart drives our personal and professional efforts.

Even when we're not in a pandemic, we offer the freedom of working from home. Zoom will be our friend for creating connection and encouraging a team feel, but without Zoom fatigue.

Minimum Requirements:
  • EXPERIENCE
    • At least 3 years’ experience as an instructional designer for online learning solutions
  • SHARE THE FOLLOWING PHILOSOPHIES
    • Creating an engaging learning experience for the learner is a constant focus.
    • We don’t design for design’s sake. EVERY design decision needs to be evaluated against how it impacts the learner and how it helps achieve the learning objectives.
    • Concrete examples and stories (not just high-level concepts) are needed to bring learning into real life and encourage application on the job.
    • Our learners are adults who deserve quality learning that adds value to their already busy lives.
  • INSTRUCTIONAL DESIGN SKILLS
    • Uncover the true learning need, desired outcomes, and requirements for a successful learning solution.
    • Write actionable learning objectives that are used throughout design (not just sit in a document never to be looked at again).
    • Outline content to support learning objectives and identify best delivery method(s).
  • INTERVIEWING and CRITICAL THINKING SKILLS
    • Interview subject matter experts on complex content, asking questions that pull out the key information needed for learners.
  • WRITING SKILLS
    • Write video scripts that are conversational, friendly and interesting, as well as concise, and that grab attention and maintain it throughout.
  • VISUAL COMMUNICATOR
    • Visualize graphics that will support and enhance the learner’s understanding of the content, not distract from it.
    • You don’t need to be a graphic artist or illustrator, but you do need to be able to envision and suggest visual elements that will work with the content and have an eye for basic graphic design principles (e.g., consistent use of fonts, alignment of screen elements).
  • ATTENTION TO DETAIL
    • Review content deliverables for clarity and accuracy (e.g., videos, job aids).
  • PROJECT MANAGEMENT SKILLS
    • Track daily progress on projects (tool TBD).
    • Stay on top of all work you share with others. Consider the project to always be in your court.
  • SELF-STARTER
    • For client industries and content that may be new to you, you take the initiative to research and learn.
  • VALUES OPEN and FREQUENT COMMUNICATION
    • Is comfortable with daily check-ins on projects.
    • Responds to emails within one day.
  • DEADLINE-DRIVEN
    • Reliably meets established deadlines.
    • Communicates concerns about any deadlines as soon as the concern arises.

  • Storyline 360 and/or Captivate 2019 experience

  • Experience working with an LMS
